Works in progress
The Metropolitano de Lisboa has presently the following major construction  project in progress:

The S. Sebastião Project - Red line extension westward, Alameda to S. Sebastião.

Red line extension between Alameda and São Sebastião

Still to be considered is also the construction of the following interfaces with the Tagus river transports:

  • Terreiro do Paço interface, on the Blue line
  • Cais do Sodré interface, on the Green line

In what concerns the network in operation, the modernisation and platform lengthening,to accomodate six cars trains, of Alvalade and Roma stations is now in progress. These works are part of a programme which includes actions of the same nature on stations Areeiro , Arroios, Anjos and Intendente. When concluded  it will be possible to operate six cars trains on the Green line similarly to what happens on the other three lines.

When these projects are concluded the Metropolitano de Lisboa will operate six cars trains (maximum configuration) on a network of about 40 Km double track with 52 stations (of which 6 double stations) divided in four lines:

Blue line:
Amadora Este - Santa Apolónia
with a length of about 13 km and 17 stations.

Yellow line:
Odivelas - Rato
with a length of about 11 km and 13 stations.

Green line:
Telheiras - Cais do Sodré
with a length of about 9 km and 13 stations.

Red line:
S. Sebastião - Oriente
with a length of about 7 km and 9 stations.
