| Lisboa Viva card |
|
| How it works |
The Lisboa Viva is a “smart card” which has an embedded chip and antenna, it works by approaching the card, without contact, to a validator, at the stations "entry" channels, which reads and validates the data loaded in the chip and, in the case of valid data, enables the access to the networks that use this card - presently the Metro, Carris and Transtejo. This card allows the loading of fares exclusive to each associated operator, multimodals, and combined fares. Due to the fact that not all the operators have joined the system, the electronic loading of fares goes along with the convencional sticker placed on the top of the Lisboa Viva card. When all the operators have joined the system this sticker will cease to exist. Presently Metro Passes 30 days and Carris/Metro passes 30 days are already dematerialized and so in these passes no sticker is needed, the fares are directly loaded into the chip.

| Where and how to reload |
The Lisboa Viva card may be loaded at any Metro station. The electronic passes valid only for the Metro, or combined Metro / Carris, may also be loaded directly from the Automatic Ticket Vending Machines at the stations. All the electronic passes may be loaded into the Lisboa Viva card at the Multibanco network; for the moment, these ATM´s can only be used to reload a card, that is, the Lisboa Viva card must have been previously loaded with a pass of the same type. In any case, no reloading is possible if the card has reached the end of its validity period.
